The Library is more than books! If you have a need to use a computer, come to the Computer Lab at the Greensburg Public Library. There you will find 10 computers for public use. In addition, we have two computers specifically for Adult Education users, one computer in the Teen area and one Internet computer in the Children's area. Our Westport Branch features two computers for public use. Microsoft Office Professional, which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access, is installed on each of these computers. Our connection to the Internet is thru a T1 line which provides a high-speed connection.

If you need to save your documents to a portable storage device, each computer is equipped with a floppy disk drive, a DVD-RW drive and numerous USB drives. You may temporarily download your own software to our computers.

For those of you who are interested in attending our Computer Workshops, stop by the Library and pick up a Computer Workshop Calendar or log onto www.greensburglibrary.org to check the current workshop calendar. Introduction to Computers, Beginning Internet, Intermediate Internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Mail Merge, Microsoft Publisher, E-mail, Four-Star Workshop for Seniors, and Researching Your Family Tree with Ancestry.com are the workshops we presently offer. All of these workshops are FREE! Registration for all computer programs begins one month in advance of workshop date. Ability to use the mouse is a prerequisite for all workshops. If you need practice using the mouse, just stop by the Computer Lab for some instructions from Kay or Joy.

Ethernet connections for laptops are available for public use in our Meeting Room, Conference Room, the two Study Rooms, and at two laptop stations in the Computer Lab. As of October, 2007 wireless access is also available without cost for those of you wishing to use your wireless enabled laptops anywhere within the Library.

Have you visited our website www.greensburglibrary.org lately from your home computer? Directly from our home page you will be able to easily access these services: Learning Express Library (practice test and tutorial course series designed to help patrons succeed on academic or licensing tests); NewsBank (one of the world's premier information providers featuring content from newspapers, newswires, business journals, historical and scholarly documents, periodicals and more); Chilton Library.com (automotive repair information for do-it-yourself people); Tumble Book Library e-books for e-kids (an online collection of animated, talking picture books, reading comprehension quizzes, and educational puzzles and games); INSPIRE Indiana's Virtual Library (collection of commercial databases and other information resources); Online Book Clubs (join our Online Book Clubs and each day we'll email you a five-minute portion of a book -- during the week you can read 2-3 chapters and decide if you want to check the book out at the Library); and Book News. Genealogy researchers are welcome to access Ancestry Library.com from our home page, too; however, this database is not available thru our website from your home computer. It is available on the Greensburg Public Library computers. It provides access to a number of genealogical and historical resources, including census, marriage, birth, immigration.

Keep in mind that directly from our home page you may also access the PACs (Public Access Computers) from your home computer. Everything you can accomplish at the PACs in the Library, you may accomplish from the comfort of your home. If you are not familiar with our Polaris Power PACs, stop by the Library and ask for one-on-one training, including three instructional hand-outs. The PACs replace the old wooden file drawers containing the Card Catalog. A bit of nostalgia?

Don't overlook the hypertext links to Net Links and Research Aids. Net Links contains a subject grid for your convenience in exploring websites we have reviewed before including on our website. Take a look at the websites within the "Decatur County Information" heading. Research Aids also includes useful websites such as links to Medline Plus, which provides trusted health information.

The Library Value Calculator on our home page will indicate how much you might be spending out-of-pocket, in a retail situation, for the Library services you use each year. Just fill in the number of items you or your family borrows in a year. Give it a try!

Are you expecting out-of-town visitors in your home this summer? They are welcome to access the Internet thru our network here at the Library, too. We encourage them to take advantage of this free access.

Come to your Library! There are so many ways to spend a day!
